Our Adoption Process

At Apocalypse Farm and Sanctuary, we believe successful adoptions are built through relationships, not transactions. Relationships grow over time; Every animal is an individual, and every family is unique. Rather than rushing placement, we take the time to understand both so we can create lasting humane matches. We walk beside our adopters; we provide honest guidance and compassionate support - we never close the door.

Our adoption process typically includes:

A conversation with our team about adding a dog or cat to your home
Meet-and-greet with household members and resident animals
Home visit
Every "adopt" begins with a foster-to-adopt placement to allow for ongoing Team Dog support throughout the transition

We encourage adopters to move at the pace that allows both people and animals to adjust comfortably. Questions, realistic expectations, troubleshooting, celebration and earned successes are all normal parts of the journey.

Our goal is not simply to complete an adoption. Our goal is to help every animal and family begin a relationship that can thrive for a lifetime.

The Team Dog Model

The Team Dog Model One of the most important beliefs at Apocalypse Farm & Sanctuary is that crisis magnifies loneliness and fear. Whether that crisis belongs to a frightened dog, an overwhelmed family, a foster caregiver, a veterinarian, or a law enforcement officer, we believe people make better decisions when they feel supported, and animals experience less suffering when the humans around them work together.

For that reason, our first response is never simply to assess the animal. Our first response is to build the team. We call this our Team Dog Model.

The Team Dog Model begins with a simple understanding: No crisis belongs to only one individual. When someone reaches out to us, we recognize that the dog is only one part of a much larger ecosystem. Every animal arrives connected to people, relationships, resources, fears, histories, hopes, limitations, and responsibilities. To understand one without seeking to understand the others is to miss the very thing creating the crisis.

We intentionally build a collaborative support team around every case whenever appropriate. This team may include family members, trusted friends, foster caregivers, trainers, veterinarians, animal control officers, law enforcement, behavioral professionals, or anyone else whose participation helps create a more complete understanding of the situation.

The purpose of Team Dog is not simply communication. Its purpose is shared understanding. As understanding grows, fear often begins to lessen. As fear lessens, thoughtful decision-making becomes possible.
